So, I'm sure some of you Taco Salad readers thought we fell off the face of the earth, but we have just been consumed with everything that happens in life.

Jack Updates: Jack turned one October 5th and had a blast at his birthday party. Jack celebrated Halloween, but wasn't quite sure about what to make of the ghoulish night, but he sure made a cute monkey! Finally, the exciting news...Jack started to walk mid November and he's go go go all the time and doesn't want to be held at all anymore.

Brian Updates: No new information to report on Brian's end. He spends his time working and rocking out to the new KISS CD.

Tasha Updates: Well, I have been quite busy in my spare time. I mastered the use of my sewing machine I received as a Christmas present a couple of years ago. I figured it was time to blow off the dust and put it to work. So, I've sewn blankets, pacifier holders and aprons. I've also learned how to make candle tarts for tart warmers. What's one to do with all the items she's made...sell them at craft shows! I had my first one in October and the second one in December. Whatch for me coming to a craft show near you in the fall of 2010!

Finally, my last bit of exciting news is that I've landed a part-time job, where I'll be the Community Relations Coordinator for the new Chick-fil-A on Houston Road. In this position, I'll be responsible for outside business development and marketing. Over the last two weeks I've completed orientation and training has begun. I couldn't be more thrilled about this opportunity and excited to work with such a great group of individuals. The last month has been crazy from interviews, to accepting the position, researching daycares for Jack and now training. However, things are falling into place as they should and Jack had his first day of daycare today and did extremely well with fitting in with the other kids. The only thing he needs to get adjusted to is napping on a mat, but that will eventually happen.

11 Months

Jack is 11 months old today and would you believe, he still isn't crawling and doesn't have any teeth! He tries so hard to crawl, gets frustrated and just gives up. I do think he might skip crawling and just start walking. My mom taught him how to walk and ever since then the little booger doesn't want to sit and wants you to walk him around the house. Oh well, perhaps one day he'll just take off crawling.

He's been saying Momma since about 5 months old and just recently starting saying Dada. He also does this little shy pose if someone comes up and starts talking to him even though he is the furthest thing from being shy. He has come to love the Lawrence Welk show (thanks Dad), very odd but if it keeps him occupied for a good amount of time I'm okay with it! Given that he loves Lawrence Welk, I think he might just be an elderly person who has died and has been reincarnated in my son! Jack also received his first haircut a couple of weeks ago and is now sporting a very cute cut!

I will say that the past 11 months with Jack have been wonderful and it is hard to believe that he'll be a year old next month. People warned me that they grow up fast and there were soooo right. Hope you enjoy the recent pics!

Remembering Man's Best Friend

As some of you may know by now, the Stulz Household lost an important family member last Friday, August 28th. Our dog, Bubby, was such the sweetest and most loving dog you will ever meet. It was about two weeks ago when he got sick and the vet initially diagnosed him with colitis. My parents and I thought this was just a bump in the road for Bubby and that he would pull through this as he always did, but this time was different.

He spent that weekend in the hospital and had his diagnosis changed to gall bladder disease, but according to the vet the prognosis was good with antibiotics. Bubby was allowed to come home and my parents and I were optimistic that the antibiotics would fix everything. As the week progressed, Bubby didn't seem to be getting better and I think we all had in the back of our minds that he might not pull out of this. Luckily, both of my parents were on vacation and were able to be there for him all week. Thursday night, he made a turn for the worse and my parents were left with the horrible decision of having to put him to down the next morning. The vet said he looked much worse than he did earlier in the week and that there was a good possibility that the gall bladder had ruptured. Even though the decision my parents had to make was hard, the vet said it was the best decision.

Getting the news from my dad last Friday morning that Bubby was gone, broke my heart and brought me to tears. For those of you with pets, know how important they become to you and how attached you get to them. I can remember getting Bubby when I was 14 years old and how excited I was that we finally had a dog. My dad was never a fan of dogs and one of the big reasons is because he said they dragged their butts across the carpet that he layed his head on.

From the day my dad saw Bubby and took him home, he was hooked. Bubby had both of my parents wrapped around his little finger and he knew it. He eventually worked his way in to their bed and slept in luxury from then on. He was more than a dog to the Stulz Family, he was a family member to us and my parents' house just doesn't seem the same without him. I couldn't help crying when I entered my parents' house after he passed because everywhere you turned you saw a spot where he used to lay and now he isn't there. Even though my heart aches, I know he is in a better place where he is pain free and happy.

We miss you Bubby and we love you.

9 Months Old

Jack just turned 9 months old on the 5th and had his check-up at the doctor yesterday and received A+ from the doctor. The doctor gave me some news that wasn't a surprise to either Brian or I, and that news is that Jack is taller than average for his age!

Jack is in the 90th percentile for his height, coming in at 30.25" and in the 50th percentile for his weight, coming in at 19 lbs 8 oz. He's growing like a weed and tries to show Brian and I that he is in charge. He is definitely our little ham and we love having him in our lives!

RIP Michael Jackson

Given that I'm a SAHM now, I am fortunate enough to witness important moments in history and today was one of those days with the memorial for Michael Jackson.

I remember being little and thinking he was the coolest thing ever, but as I got older and was able to form my own opinions, I thought he was an odd character and as the years went by, this opinion grew stronger.

It was not until today, during his memorial, when his daugther got up to the microphone and said how he was the best dad ever and how much she loved him. I then realized he was just like you and I. I then felt bad of forming opinions of a man that I never knew. One thing is for sure, he was a wonderful dad to his kids and at the end of the day, this is what is most important.

Last night Jack's Father's Day present to his daddy was a trip to the ER with a 103 degree fever. Brian was handling the situation much better than I was. On our way to the ER, my stomach was nervous the way it was when eight months ago we were going there so that I could give birth to Jack. However, last night my nervousness wasn't for me, but for my son, Jack. This was the first time he had ever been sick and a flood of emotions over took me and I tried not to think of the worse, but it was hard not too. Jack was such a good sport as each medical professional examined him and today he seems that he is on the mend. I hope last night will be our last time visiting the ER with Jack, but given that he is a boy, I'm sure it won't be the last visit.

My first Mother's Day was such a great day and I couldn't have asked for a better day. Brian and Jack gave me the necklace I've been dying to have since Christmas and we took Jack to visit the Zoo for the first time. I think Jack enjoyed his first trip to the jungle! That is how Brian and I now describe Jack! He is growing so quickly and turning into a little man right before our eyes and we are loving every minute of it!

I realize it has been a while since we've made a post and I greatly apologize! As Jack gets older he likes to be entertained all the time and finding the time to blog just doesn't seem to happen.

Jack will be 8 months old in just a couple of weeks. He weighs 18 lbs, is rolling over (both ways...yippee), says Momma, loves to blabber away, grabs everything in arms reach and still doesn't like green vegetables. Brian and I find him to be quite entertaining and are so blessed to have him in our lives.

We have had some crazy weather in Kentucky lately! A couple of weeks ago we battled with a major snow and ice storm and last week we had thunderstorms and high winds. I was able to capture the beautiful sight of a rainbow with my camera...definitely something you don't see during winter!

4 Months Old

It's hard to believe that are little man is 4 months old already! He had his 4 month check-up at the pediatrician this past week and weighed in at 14lbs exactly! Given that he only weighed 5lbs 10oz when he was born, the little guy had a lot of catching up to do! He is now eating baby food because the formula just wasn't cutting it for him. We've learned that he doesn't like green vegetables too much, but is starting to like peas. He'll eat sweet potatoes and carrots any day over green beans and peas. He also loves applesauce, pears, bananas, and peaches!

Since I've been home, Jack has finally gotten on a schedule. If he gets off of it just a tad bit, Brian and I pay for it dearly rest of the day and sometime night.

Jack loves to talk and laugh away. I tell everyone that the minute he can start forming words, watch out world because I think he will talk your ear off.

Brian and I are blessed to have such a healthy, well behaved and handsome little boy and we can't imagine our lives without him!

Domestic Goddess vs Working Mother

As some of you Taco Salad readers might know by now, Brian and I made the decision for me to leave my full-time job and stay home with Jack and look for something part-time in marketing.

I returned back to work on January 6th after being home with Jack for a little over three months. My first day back was very hard and made me realize things that were once important to me ranked a little lower now. Family has become front and center and I needed to make a choice that would accomodate this lifestyle change for me.

As I returned for the second day of work, I still was upset at the fact that Jack would only see either of his parents for 2 hours out of the day. The stability that he needs of a parent being there for him would not happen if I continued to work full-time. Jack was having a hard time adjusting to the change as well. At this point, the decision to stay home became a fairly easy one for Brian and I to make.

I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and as I close this chapter of my life, I look forward to what the next chapter will bring. I also want to thank Brian for being such an amazing and supportive husband during this transtion in our lives.

Tina & Brad's Winter Wish

On Saturday, January 10th, Half Barrel front man and rythm guitarist, Robbie Hartman, stepped away from his usual gig to head the pop/rock quartet, Jack Trigger, at the Beer Sellar in Newport, Kentucky. Friends and family gathered together to catch-up, take in the awesome show, and enjoy a few tasty brews. Although Half Barrel drummer Jimmy Thomas could not attend for personal reasons, Half Barrel bassist Craig Gruelle and lead guitarist Jaden Zerhusen were in the crowd, and reported that Hartman's parlay with JT has caused "absolutely no rift whatsoever" among the long-time bandmates. In fact, Gruelle and Zerhusen allowed that Half Barrel intends to continue on with Bobby Hartmanship peforming with both bands, and, fans can expect Half Barrel 2009 Summer Tour dates to be announced sometime this Spring.

So, Brian and I have absolutely enjoyed seeing Jack smile and get so excited when we make faces at him. I have been a bad influence on my son (as Brian would say), and have taught him to stick out his tongue! However, in my defense, it is the cutest thing ever when he sees you stick out your tongue and in return sticks out his tongue.

Jack's Baptism

We recently celebrated with family Jack's Baptism on December 7th. Jack wore the gown I was baptized in as an infant. As you can imagine, seeing my son in the gown I wore brought tears to my eyes and will be a moment in time that will stay with me forever.

Brian and I hoped and prayed that Jack would not mind the water being poured on his head, but he did great! He loves bath time and we thought he would just think he is getting a bath and we are pretty sure he thought it was bath time. He didn't fuss at all and was so good.

Brian and I would like to thank our family again for attending and beging a part of a special time in Jack's life. We also look forward to Jack developing his own reasons on why he thinks Hopeful Lutheran is a great place.

So, I'm writing to vent about television and my recent frustrations. I don't watch a lot of t.v. but when I do, I have my favorite shows. Some of which include: Ghost Whisperer, Desperate Housewives, and Lipstick Jungle.

Last week I became annoyed when the writers of Ghost Whisperer decided to have "Jim" the main star's husband die. He's been such an integral part of the show and to now have him die is ridiculous! I watched the recent episode last night only to find out that he will now be living in someone's else body! I mean really! I would expect this if I was watching Days of our Lives where people die and come back all the time, but not with this show!

Second, I learned yesterday that Lipstick Jungle is being cancelled and it seems that everytime I get interested in a show it gets cancelled. I'm left scratching my head to understand why reality shows always survive and keep coming back each season! Have we really become a society that thrives on watching other people live their lives, see if they can survive in the wild for 30 days, or try to figure out which guy or girl they will propose too? What happened to those good quality family shows that I so fondly remember watching on Friday nights with my family when I was a little girl? Those shows brought families together for a hour or two a night and for me built memories that will last a lifetime.

Is it too much for me to ask for some good television shows that make me happy when I watch them, make me feel like I can relate to them, or allow me to forget about the crazy day I've had and for a brief time step into the world I'm watching on television? Just some food for thought!

Almost 6 Weeks Old

It's hard to believe, but Jack will be 6 weeks old this coming Sunday and is absolutely growing like a weed! He had his one month check-up this past Tuesday and weighed in at 8lbs 5oz and 22.25 inches long. The doctor said he looks absolutely great!

My time spent with Jack thus far has been great and I wouldn't trade these days for anything. Being a mother is better than I could have ever imagined and look forward to the next 6 weeks with my little man! Hope you enjoy the latest pics of our little guy!

Well, the biggest day of our lives finally arrived. Today Tasha and I welcomed our son into the world at 7:30 a.m. He's healthy and beautiful, and we are incredibly grateful to have him. Hurricane Ike Hits Cumberland Circle

Today was hands-down the scariest experience I've had as a homeower. As Hurricane Ike moved north and slightly to the west of the tri-state area, it brought with it win gusts of up to 75 mph (that's hurricane force winds people). Tasha and I spent most of the afternoon without power, and praying that a tree or some other large object would not slam into our home. The winds appear to be subsiding, and aside from taking out one tree that I don't like anyway, and tearing apart a dead elm tree that I was planning on having cut down in the next couple of weeks, we escaped with only minor damage to our home. On Monday we will only have four weeks left until Jack's due date. Everything's set-up and waiting for him. In fact, J.D. already has more stuff than his Mommy and Daddy. Mommy's starting to feel a lot more uncomfortable, but is holding up like a trooper. She's been absolutley fabulous (pon intended) throughout the entire pregnancy. How Hurricanes Get Their Names

Every year, during hurricane season, there is much debate about how hurricanes get their names. Here's a little knowledge that you can drop at your next cocktail party.

While alphabetical order is clear, there is much more to naming storms. Short and distinguishable names are now used (as opposed to the older method of identifying a storm by its latitude and longitude).

Every region in the U.S. has its own naming procedure (the storm-prone Atlantic and Eastern North Pacific having the most elaborate), with a pre-approved set of names familiar to that area. The lists are used in rotation every six years, meaning the same list of names that was used to name Gustav will be used again in 2014.

Each of the six alphabetized lists includes 21 pre-approved names, with the letters Q,U,X,Y, and Z excluded.

Lists are not designated by year. If the third name on a list is the last storm to hit, then the first storm of the following year is named simply by picking the next name on the list.

Exceptions to these rules include retiring severe names from the list (Katrina, Andrew, etc.). Also, in extreme conditions, the Greek alphabet is an option in the Atlantic. As a back-up, storms take on names like Hurricane Alpah and Tropical Storm Beta whan all 21 names from that year's pre-approved list have already been used.

So, there you have it. Stay dry.

No matter how bad the opponent, the Bengals always find a way to play worse. Talk about futility. The Bengals are a total mess. When parity in the NFL is greater than it has ever been, the Bengals should not be perennial losers. Nonetheless, here we are again. The Bengals have not been a legitimate NFL franchise for over twenty years, and the blame falls squarely on Mike Brown.

There's no discipline, no leadership, no accountability, and no heart. Moreover, a major talent upgrade (in the front office, on the field, and on the sideline) is needed. But, the only way the Bengals will ever achieve the requisite level of talent (on all fronts) is for Mike Brown to: (1) give up control of football operations, (2) hire additional scouts and a GM that know how to evaluate personnel, and (3) let Marvin Lewis (or whoever the coach, as it's just a matter of time before an under-appreciated and frustrated Lewis leaves for greener pastures) manage his team and hold players accountable.

Simply put, Mike Brown has no idea what he is doing, and, his refusal to operate the black and orange like a true professional sports team is selfish and greedy. Even though Hamilton County taxpayers paid millions of dollars to build "HIM" a new stadium, and, despite the fact that he makes millions of dollars in profit each year from revenue sharing and optimistic fans, Mike Brown has done nothing to upgrade the Bengals despite the generous resources that have been provided to him. He's sacraficed nothing, but has been given everything (including the team itself). Good job Mikey Boy!! Way to build upon your father's legacy! Way to give back to the people and community that have supported your family for almost fifty years! Way to take advantage of countless Bengals fans from Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana!!

I'm tired of this one-sided relationship, and I'm tired of the crap I see each week, year after year. Enough is enough. I'm not going to anymore games, I'm not watching anymore games, and I'm not buying anymore merchandise, until I see marked improvement and/or at least a commitment to winning.

The only chance of this ever getting better is for Mike Brown to either sell the team or give up control.

I thought I would provide Taco Salad readers a Baby Jack Update since I haven't written one in a while. So, here it goes...Jack is very active and in fact I recently came down with a sinus infection and was at my family doctor to hopefully get some relief. As I'm sitting there he was just moving around having a good time, which I thought was funny because I felt absolutely horrible. My mom was there to witness all of it, so she can tell you first hand how fun of a time the little guy was having!

I turned 33 weeks yesterday and I feel great and anxious for him to arrive. I went to the doctor last week and she said that everything looks great. Everyone keeps telling me how small I am for being eight months but she said I'm on track and to expect him to be 6 to 7 lbs when he is born. Jack continues to bake away for now and I know he looks forward to meeting each of you when he arrives!

Shower Number Two!

This past Sunday, Baby Jack and I attended a beautiful shower that my mom and sister threw for us and they gave it that extra touch that made it such a special day for me. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I know Jack did as well. My mom made beautiful flower arrangements, wrote a thoughtful poem for Jack, Brian wrote our son a very cute and funny letter, which left me with a bag full of treats, and we were even given two beautiful diapers cakes that I absolutely do not want to take apart.

Brian and I are always amazed at the love and thoughtfulness our family and friends continue to show towards welcoming our first child into this world. We are so blessed to have such a great support system and can't imagine our lives without each of you!

So, I want to thank my mom and sister for hosting such a beautiful shower that will be treasured by me always. Thank you to my sister who created such thoughtful and sweet favors for all the guests. Thank you to my neighbor Maggie, who brought such a beautiful cake and finally, thanks to everyone who attended and showered Jack with such amazing presents. We look forward to introducing Jack to all of you very soon!

Last Sunday Jack and I had our first shower hosted by the Riddell Girls. We were showered by love from friend and family who presented Jack with numerous gifts that Brian and I are so appreciative for. Some how Jack even managed to get me gift with the help of my mom and helped my mother-in-law create favors for the guests. Jack sure has become so thoughtful and he isn't even here yet!

When I learned about Ken Griffey Jr. getting traded last week from Brian, I was shocked and happy. Happy because for so long I felt that the Reds didn't need Ken Griffey Jr. He surely didn't give the Reds any competitive advangtage and only hit them out of the ball park when he wanted to beat records. He also spent more time on the bench than actually playing and always seemed to be nursing an injury.

So, it's time that the Reds cut their losses and spend the salary they were paying him on finding more pitching talent.

Introducing Baby Jack

I figure, over the last month, you all have grown tired of looking at me and my kick $$ss haircut and rocking guitar. Well, now you can look at something a lot more special: our son Jack.

Above are images of our little guy taken at today's 3D ultra sound session. Nothing in our lives has ever compared to the excitement of seeing our beautiful son for the first time. We are truly blessed to not only have him, but live in a time where such things are possible.

I've heard it said that a woman becomes a mother as soon as she becomes pregnant, but a man becomes a father as soon as he sees his child. I strongly disagree with that thinking, as I've hoped for, and worried about, my little boy since the moment we learned we are going to be parents. Even so, today Tasha and I experienced a new joy that I dare say neither one of us could dream of. Indeed, no one can imagine such feelings until the time to experience them comes. Knowing how great Tasha and I feel today, we can't wait for the even greater enrichment of living our lives together with our precious gift.

Baseball Puts its Head in the Sand...Again

Yesterday fashion designer Marc Ecko unconditionally donated to the MLB Hall of Fame the home run ball Barry Bonds hit on August 7, 2008 (his 756th) to "technically" pass Hank Aaron as MLB's all-time career home run leader. Ecko paid $752,467 for the ball in September '07.

Notably, before making the dontation, Ecko branded the ball with an astrisk to reflect the steroid allegations that have embroiled Bonds and his "record". In particular, Ecko arranged for a five star asterisk to be cut into the cowhide across the "Major League Baseball" moniker.

Bonds responded by calling Ecko an "idiot" and stated that he would boycott Cooperstown if the ball is ever displayed there. Now, a day after accepting Ecko's donation, Baseball is refusing to accept the ball under the guise that it perceives Ecko's donation to be, in reality, a loan.

Surely, this was to be expected, as Baseball has time and time again looked the other way when it comes to the steriod issue.

I say kudos to Ecko for doing the right thing by giving the ball to Baseball, and doing the more appropriate thing by: (1) honoring the integrity of the game; (2) honoring Hank Aaron, his record, and his character; and (3) publicly identifying Bonds' "record" for what it truly is. Especially, since fans cannot expect Major League Baseball to do it.

Over the past two months we've been working to get Jack's room ready for his arrival and we are finally finished!

A big thanks goes to Rick for helping paint, my mom for making the beautiful drapes, my dad and mom for taking an entire Saturday and putting together all the baby furniture. Brian and I are extremely appreciative of all the help and can't thank you enough!

The theme of Jack's room is Frogs and Ducks and we think it will be very fitting for our little guy!

Each time I walk past his room, I can't help but turn on the light, sit down in the chair and think of October and how he'll just be sleeping away in his crib, or the nights Brian and I will be comforting him when he is upset. Having his room all in place definitely makes things seem more real.

25 Weeks

I thought I would provide you with a pregnancy update, so here you go! I'll be 25 weeks tomorrow and everything is great! My only complaint is some sore ribs from Jack kicking them so much but other than that I've never been better. Yesterday I had blood work to test for Gestational Diabetes, so hopefully all comes back fine.

Jack has been very active and enjoys listening to classical music. I try to play it for him as much as I can and each time I do he just kicks away. Brian has also been talking to Jack almost every night and every time Jack responds by moving towards his voice. It's moments like these that Brian and I have with Jack that make us feel so blessed.

Brian and I are anxious to meet our little guy and the date couldn't come fast enough for us. We've enjoyed the ride so far and looking forward to this new chapter in our lives.

This post is long overdue and Brian and I apologize in advance. As the title reads, Brian and I are having a boy! It came as a surprise to Brian because he definitely thought we were having a girl.

Our little guy is absolutely perfect and very healthy. As of a couple weeks ago, he weighed 11 oz and has very long legs just like his daddy. He was even so excited about us seeing him for the first time that he waved to us. Of course, it brought tears to my eyes and will be a moment I'll never forget.

I'm a little over 21 weeks and I feel great and so blessed that God gave Brian and I this precious gift of life. We both look forward to meeting our son in October and have decided to name him John (Jack) Donald Riddell. Hmm, JDR... with those intitals, he is bound to follow in his father's footsteps and become an attorney!

Hello Taco Salad Readers!

Well, I'm a little over 18 weeks now and my belly gets bigger each day. As of last week, Baby Riddell has been on the move in my stomach.

It was so amazing when I felt the first movement or at least that's what I thought it was. When I experienced it again I knew it was Baby Riddell. Lately, Baby Riddell has been very active in the morning, but I'm convinced that it's enjoying my morning bowl of Cherrios! However, there are times where I feel movement pretty much all day. It's amazing to know that I have this little life inside of me.

Brian and I have our 5 month check up next Thursday and we are both super excited. This appointment will tell us the gender of baby Riddell and most importantly we'll finally get to see our little one!

End of an Era

Approximately two weeks ago Showcase Cinemas in Erlanger, Kentucky closed its doors forever. I was confronted by that reality, and saddened at the same time when, while driving home from work, I saw that the marquee, which has stood next to I-75 for so many years, read: "Closed: Please visit our Florence location." The recent rash of "state-of-the art stadium theatres" made the closing of National Amusements' antiquated and over-priced picture house inevitable. Naturally, I've spent a great deal of time recently reflecting on the many hours and wonderful times I spent at that place.

My position as an usher was my first job. Well, actually my second. I started the summer of my sixteenth year doing landscaping for my second cousin Carla's husband, Norb, for a couple of days. I quit when my buddy Jaden approached me with the promise of free movies, free popcorn, and air conditioning. I know, I know. Chad and Ryan think I did ole Norbie wrong. But, what 16 year-old would turn down a deal like that?

I watched, and worked through, hits such as Jurassic Park, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Fugitive, Schindler's List, Philadelphia, Grumpy Old Men, Wayne's World 2, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Lion King, Dumb & Dumber, Ace Ventura Pet Detective, The Crow, Interview With The Vampire, Pulp Fiction, Toy Story, Braveheart, Bad Boys, Jerry Maguire, Scream, Titanic, Men In Black, Good Will Hunting, and As Good As It Gets. There were quite a few bombs that rolled through that place as well--see Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, and Water World.

I also had the opportunity to work with some of my best hommies--Chad, Jaden, Justin, Suave, Girds. I'll never forget the time me and Steve Holmstrom called Chad, while he was working his shift at the rival Florence theatre, Lowes, to convince him to dawn the blue blazer and come work for us. Unfortunately, we could never lure Newmpsee to make the move and join us as well.

I can't believe the last time I "stood poles" will have been 11 years ago this summer. It's funny. As a child, you hear parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles tell stories about the good memories they have of places that are no longer here (the Dixie Ice Bowl, the Florence Drive-In Theatre, The Beverly Hills Supper Club, etc.). Now, as an adult, I'm telling those same stories. The passing of time and feelings of nastalgia sure do allow for new and interesting perspectives on things.

Walton Verona Elementary Has a New Chief

I've never really considered myself much of a gamer. In fact, growing up, video games could only entertain me for so long. I've always thought they were cool, but after a while, I'd be up to shoot baskets, ride my bike, toss baseball (or play pickle) with my Dad and/or my bros, or play Paul O'Neal or Glen Braggs with my bros and El Senior (Paul O'Neal and Glen Braggs are games invented by me and my brothers that are variations of two spectacular plays made by O'Neal and Braggs respectively during the 1990 National League Championship Series against the Pittsburgh Pirates). I like physical activity, and prefer to be active over watching a TV screen and manipulating a controller with my thumbs. As such, it would take something extraordinary to change my ways and make me a convert. Well, I'm officially a convert, and both my wife and Nintendo are responsible for the change.

In particular, Tasha, who as been yearning for a Wii for quite some time, recently got a wild hair up her $@ss and decided to pull the trigger. End result: Prego T-Fab leaving Toys R Us with one of the last two Wii's in stock (As an aside, are multiple Wii's pronounced Wi? I leave you all to debate).

Long story short, this little white box has provided endless fun for us over the mere five days that we've had it. In fact, all of my post-Derby activity last Saturday consisted of sipping mint juleps and playing: (1) Super Mario Cart, (2) Wii Bowling, and (3) Wii Golf. I am continuously amazed at how realistic the games feel and how accurately movements translate to the TV screen. I absolutely love it.

So, I had my four month check up this morning and all is great! The doctor (Brian is referring to him as McDreamy because I told him how attractive he is) immediately picked up the little booger's heartbeat and it was so strong, super fast and loud! I only heard one heartbeat, so I don't think we have two in there.

I shared with my doctor the weird things I've been feeling lately. He said everything is normal, which was great to hear. With this being my first I don't know what's normal and what isn't. I go back May 22nd for my ultrasound and 5 month check up. At that point we should know if we are having a girl or a boy!

I briefly caught the ending of The Celebrity Fit Club this evening, when it occured to me that the contestants sure do get in fights a lot and are just mean. I then thought to myself and realized, well no duh! They're mean because they're hungry! I mean come on, when I'm hungry watch out world. Being pregnant, if you get in my way when I need to eat, I am not responsible for the actions I take to get food in my belly! So, the next time you watch Celebrity Fit Club, just think about how hungry they are!

Face to Face with Legends

Ah, yes. Good things come to those who wait. Indeed, last night's Van Halen show that rocked U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, was both extremely good and well worth the wait.

Thank you's go to my twin brother Chad, and my lovely wife Tasha. I really did not expect to attend this historic reunion. However, Chad and Tasha made it all possible by surprising me with a ticket last year at Christmas.

Not only was I there, but also, Chad and I were mere rows from Ed and Diamond Dave. Best tickets I've ever had in my entire life. In fact, they were so good, Chad and I couldn't help but shoot each other smirks while walking all the way to the end of the staircase, past hundreds of people, and stepping onto the arena floor. I knew what he was thinking, as I was thinking the same thing: "Can you believe this?!" He also told me what he was thinking. Anyway, it was pretty sweet. Let me put it this way. Our seats were so good that we watched the entire show approximately 20 feet from Valerie Bertinelli ("One Day at a Time" star, Eddie's ex-wife, and Wolfgang's mom).

A few observations. First, Chad wanted to ask Valerie where Schneider was. I asked Chad if she actually went out with Donnie Osmond. How do you go from Eddie Van Halen, guitar hero, to Donnie Osmond? Donnie's hardly rock-n-roll, no matter what he says. Sorry. I digress.

Second, Eddie's performace was absolutely amazing. The guy's an innovator and a genius. Moreover, it looked as though he was genuinely having fun. His status as a rock legend and undisputed leader of this band was obvious, as his pedal board and mic sat squarely at center stage.

Third, Diamond David Lee Roth, at the young age of 53, looked ripped, sounded great, and moved surprisingly well. Although his jumps, leg kicks, and squeals aren't as high they were twenty years ago, they're still plenty good.

Fourth, props go to Wolfgang Van Halen. The teenager has some serious chops and more than held his own. It's clear that the apple did not fall far from the tree.

All and all it was a great show. Aside from certain times when Roth's vocals were drowned out by feedback (U.S. Bank is not the greatest place for acoustics), and the synthesizer tracking being off a little during "Jump", Van Halen put on a nearly flawless performance and showed that they "still got it." Fans slated to see future shows certainly will not be disappointed.

I'd just like to take a moment to congratulate my very talented older bro, Brad. Last night I learned that he has been awarded a contract to write the script for the MTV Films movie "Hell Week". No, it's not some slasher flic. Rather, it's about, oddly enough, a sorority (I would think that such a movie would be about a fraternity, but what do I know--I'm a lawyer, not a big-time Hollywood studio executive). Anyway, congratulations Brad; job well done in an industry where getting a writing gig is an achievement in and of itself.

Also, be sure to check out Brad's other films: (1) "American Pie Presents: Band Camp"--on DVD and TBS, (2) "Road Trip 2" (not yet complete), and (3) "Slapshot: The Junior League"--production to start on April 28th in Vancouver.
